About
Stinging Nettles is a folk-rock/Indie-rock band from Lancaster, PA. The band has recently evolved into a four-piece, adding a lead guitarist to the roster! Flyin’ Ryan Obrien joined us after his previous band, “The Butchers”, dissipated. The band now consists of John Huebner on lead vocals and rhythm guitars, Andrew Jacobs on electric bass and bkgrd vocals, Flyin on lead guitar and Dylan Labiak on the drums.
Stinging Nettles have opened for/played with bands such as Everclear, Gringo Star, Slimfit, The April Skies, The Sleeping World, Eye Wish Eye, Reason Left Town & Joe Jack Talcum of Dead Milkmen/Low Budgets/No!Go!Tell! fame. They’ve performed a few years at Freedom Fest at Marion Ct. in Lancaster. The band has consistently performed at Bube’s Brewery in Mount Joy and Chameleon Club and Quips Pub in Lancaster over the last 3+ years.
A little band history. John Huebner played in a few bands prior to founding Stinging Nettles… which came about after Andrew Jacobs (AJ) engineered, mixed and mastered an EP for John called “Wayfarin’” and liked what he heard so much that he urged John to start a band that would play gigs and put out records. AJ offered to play bass in the band. Soon thereafter, AJ decided to end the band he had started/fronted: Altercana. Jacobs quickly added some groove and mojo to the rhythm section… standing alongside Marshall Fischer who gladly accepted to fill the drummer spot! Last year, Marshall Fischer decided to leave the band and play full-time with his other band “Felix Lighter”. The drummer’s spot was filled by Dylan Labiak who had previously been involved with bands such as “Trash” and “8-Track Radio”.
Stinging Nettles has released a full-length record, titled “Tread Softly”. The album was released in April 2009. The band is now recording an EP of some new material which will feature the newest incarnation of Stinging Nettles and some rockin’ tunes!
Expect a Feb. 2010 release.
The future is unwritten……
